The Trust has built space for 3 new beds and a sit up service at our 24 hour direct access hostel Bishopbridge House to accommodate an additional 7 people after huge public generosity helped us raise £140,000.
£180,000 came out of the Trusts reserves to fund the extension but despite the hugely successful public appeal, we are still £40,000 short of our target.
The project was initiated following an increase in the rough sleeping population and to provide another filter system for the hostel and was described by Maria Pratt, Bishopbridge House Manager as "almost a triage and assessment centre, ensuring people don't have to wait on the street". With the start of Universal Credit, Mrs Pratt said "a wider range of people are now seeking our service. People who would not ordinarily come into our service may become vulnerable".
