Businesses can help by donating goods and materials that are perhaps no longer needed, but which can benefit the Trust; providing places on appropriate training courses for the Trust staff; and of course sponsoring activities that both raise money and build your team. Helping the Trust can generate valuable press coverage.

Contact, Assessment and Prevention Service (CAPS)
The CAPS team at St. Martins Housing Trust works mainly with rough sleepers and vulnerably housed people in the Norwich area. The five person team also works creatively to prevent homelessness.

The team is based at Bishopbridge House, Norwich, NR1 4FD, telephone (01603) 666563. They do outreach sessions as follows:

Þ

Þ Mondays to Friday - 8am to 10am

The ARC Pottergate, Norwich

Þ Monday and  Friday - 10am to 12pm

Norwich City Council

Þ Wednesday - 10am to 12pm

The Big Issue, St Faiths Lane, Norwich
         TADS, Unthank Road, Norwich

Þ Thursday - 10am to 12pm
     All Saints Centre, Westlegate, Norwich

For advice outside of these times go to Bishopbridge House from 9am to 4pm on (01603) 666563.

CAPS work on the streets with those sleeping rough, late at night and in the early hours of the morning. They make a definitive count of the numbers sleeping rough each week. Their object is to engage with rough sleepers and follow up their contacts during the day in order to meet their contact’s housing and other needs.

The team sees 60 to 70 people a week in addition to those encountered at night rough sleeping in Norwich. They can provide travel to verified bed vacancies anywhere in the country and will look sympathetically on any problem presented by a vulnerable person in need.

The Bigger Picture:
The Trust does not work in isolation, but is part of the broader movement in Norwich and the surrounding area. It works with other voluntary organisations, housing associations , community networks and church groups to help build a better life for homeless people.

St Martins Housing Trust is a progressive and developing charity constantly, adjusting to the needs of homeless people. Over the last few years the needs of people accessing our services, and their needs, have changed dramatically. We are seeing a growing number of young people, women and people with mental health and substance misuse.

St Martins House Capital Appeal

The Trust is pleased to announce that the Appeal for funds to re-develop St. Martins House closed in April 2008.  Launched in 2004 the Appeal had the sole aims of preventing the closure of the Trust’s “anchor” project in central Norwich for single homeless people. Using the existing core of the building a new 22-bed Care Home for the dual diagnosis group (homeless individuals with alcohol and mental health issues) was built.  Highwater House was officially opened in April 2008 and provides a light, bright and warm environment for both the staff and the residents.
